About

Gráinne is an illustrator and botanical artist based in Wales. Originally from Dublin, she completed a BA Design in Visual Communications at Dublin Institute of Technology before moving to Machynlleth in Wales in 2009. She now resides in Tywyn with her partner and two cats.

In 2012 she and a group of other gardeners set up Green Isle Growers Veg Bag Scheme (now The Mach Veg Box / Bocs Llysiau Mach) and went on to co-found community organisation, Mach Maethlon, which is dedicated to putting food at the heart of the community through a variety of initiatives.

In 2018 she decided to combine her love of art and gardening. She dipped her toe into the wonderful world of botanical art by taking a distance learning course with the London Art College and she hasn’t looked back since.

In Feb 2024 she gained a Distinction in the Advanced Certificate in Botanical Illustration from the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh.

She is fascinated by all kinds of botanical subjects but takes particular interest in emphasising the hidden beauty and peculiarities of the edible plants in our world that often go unnoticed.

She works in pencil, pen, ink and watercolour and aims to represent her plant subjects simply and elegantly.
